The DIY That Disintegrated

Imagine walking down the aisle, nervous and excited to meet your partner at the end of the aisle. The music starts up, the procession begins, you take a deep breath and start walking to the front…and suddenly see your bridal arbor snap in half in front of your eyes!

his sounds like a scene from a wedding nightmare, but it happened to a real bride who DIY’d the prettiest wedding arbor set. As she was quite literally walking down the aisle, the wind picked up at the venue and the arbor snapped in half at the bottom!

Luckily, we were there to save the day…Micro Miami thought quickly to roll the wedding cocktail barrels to the arbor, quickly zip-tie the pieces together, and keep the arbor whole for the bridal procession! When the bride arrived at the front of the aisle, all eyes were focused back on her as she said her vows, with a decor crisis narrowly averted. Saving the day in this case was only possible with the help of a quick-thinking planner like MMW…since she was pretty busy walking down the aisle when the unexpected struck!

The Peanut Gallery Debate

The Downpour in the Dark

If rain on your wedding day is your worst nightmare, you’re not alone. One of our brides was planning for an outdoor wedding, since her mother really wanted to host the ceremony outside. However, the weather was looking questionable for the day, so we suggested an indoor location to avoid any weather-related stress. In the end, we went with her adamant wishes for an outdoor ceremony, since you are the one who ultimately makes the calls!

The day arrived, and so did the worst-case scenario: right as the ceremony was set up, rain started pouring down. Luckily, we were quick on our feet - MMW picked up all 80 chairs by hand, carted them indoors at record speed, and improvised an on-the-fly beautiful indoor wedding! A good planner is worth their weight in gold to improvise a perfect solution; we’ve seen endless crises, and have learned to always expect the unexpected.

But…

Just as we thought everything was sorted, catastrophe struck yet again out of the blue: the lights vendor was nowhere to be found! We needed to think quickly. The booked vendor never showed up, but we were able to create absolute magic out of nowhere! We took a spotlight that was laying on the ground at the venue, set it up, and created the most beautiful, aesthetic environment for the indoor venue using the lights available to us…and it looked just like the bride’s dream outdoor sunset wedding setting!

The Case of the Missing Florals

We love an exotic destination wedding, and we know our brides do, too. Sometimes though, destinations can come with their own set of unexpected mishaps! Paraguay is a unique location for a wedding, but last year during the pandemic, there were shipping issues with flowers. Rare is the wedding that would be complete without some stunning florals, so this was a problem we had to solve to save the day!

Being a planner can mean taking up the mantle for several jobs at once: serving as your friend, advocate, assistant, and even emergency floral stylist! MMW was able to clip stunning leaves and beautiful flowers from the venue space - and turn the local flora into the coolest centerpieces for our couple! As an added bonus, these floral pieces were a little extra special, since they were local to the couple’s dream setting in Paraguay. Sometimes, a problem just requires a little creativity, resourcefulness, and experience to turn into a positive.

In another case, for a last-minute romantic elopement in Philadelphia, the team couldn’t find appropriate flowers for the bride! Every bride deserves a stunning bouquet to offset her dress on her special day, so we stepped in with some creative solutions yet again. We created the most jaw-dropping bouquet selection for her, using local flowers and branches from the city streets in spring! From a huge showstopper white natural bouquet that perfectly complemented her dress to a smaller bright set full of every color of the rainbow, we were even able to offer multiple choices for her to choose from. You never know what amazing solutions your planner will be able to come up with, but we have a solution for every unexpected wedding day calamity!

My story…

From trials to troubles, messes to mix-ups, problems to predicaments… weddings can come with their fair share of unexpected issues that you can’t possibly plan for ahead of time.

I’ve been there. I was a COVID bride - with so many uncertainties during the pandemic, it felt like I had more questions than answers when planning my own wedding. Our venue choice even cancelled our booking! We were planning originally on a beautiful Paris wedding, but things fell through. When that didn’t happen, we hired a professional to help us make a backup plan for our day! This just goes to show: sometimes, even the professionals need another professional to help out when things get tough! Thought the booking issues were sorted, we had our own set of unexpected tragedy to work through when my aunt and uncle passed away due to COVID a few days before our wedding date. I’d like to remind you now that mindset matters a lot on your day.

You often can’t change the circumstances you’re dealt, but you can change your outlook on them. All that actually matters for your weeding is that you get to marry your best friend and gain a spouse for life - not the losses around your venue, your flowers, or even tragedy. Adopt the mentality that it might not be exactly how you initially wanted it, but your wedding day will still be everything it’s meant to be…because in the end, you’re marrying your very best friend!
